Intentional Breeding and Thoughtful Planning - NEW for 2026/27 litter

We breed with the intention that every puppy has a loving, prepared home waiting. 

• Requiring early commitments helps us avoid having puppies sit unplaced. 
• We are not a high-volume breeder. 
• By confirming interest ahead of time, we ensure that breeding is done only when there is real demand from families ready for the responsibility of a puppy.  

If fewer than four families submit deposits, we will delay breeding until the minimum number is reached. You may request a full refund at that decision point or choose to stay on the list for the next round.  

The $500 deposit is non-refundable once breeding has taken place, except in the event that the litter does not take (i.e., the breeding is unsuccessful) — in that case, your deposit will be fully refunded.  Your deposit is credited toward the full purchase price of the puppy, with no additional fees added.

While we do our best to pair families with their preferred puppy, we cannot guarantee the colour,  gender or number of puppies of any litter. Placing a deposit gives you priority in the pick order, but if your specific preference isn’t available, the deposit remains non-refundable once breeding has taken place.

Bringing a Portuguese Water Dog into your home is an exciting and lifelong commitment. To ensure our puppies are placed in the best possible homes, we follow a structured application process.

Potential families must complete our puppy application form, which can be found on our Downloads Page. This helps us understand your experience, lifestyle, and expectations to ensure that a Portuguese Water Dog is the right fit for you. 

*New for 2026/27 Litter:  Deposits from 4 families are required for a breeding to take place.   

At seven weeks of age, each puppy is assessed using the Volhard Puppy Aptitude Test (PAT) by an impartial group. This evaluation helps us determine temperament, confidence, and energy levels, ensuring the best match between puppy and family.

We use both your application and the PAT scores to suggest a puppy suited to your home. We take great care in matching temperament and energy levels to your lifestyle, ensuring a successful and happy placement. 

Once your puppy is selected, we require a non-refundable deposit of 50% of the total cost to secure your puppy.

On the agreed-upon pick-up day, we will both sign the puppy contract, and the remaining 50% balance must be paid before the puppy is released to you.

Once we complete the CKC registration of your puppy, you will receive an email directly from CKC with the details.
