Our Application Process
Bringing a Portuguese Water Dog into your home is an exciting and lifelong commitment. To ensure our puppies are placed in the best possible homes, we follow a structured application process.
Step 1: Submit an Application
Potential families must complete our puppy application form, which can be found on our Downloads Page. This helps us understand your experience, lifestyle, and expectations to ensure that a Portuguese Water Dog is the right fit for you.
Step 2: Puppy Evaluations
At seven weeks of age, each puppy is assessed using the Volhard Puppy Aptitude Test (PAT) by an impartial group. This evaluation helps us determine temperament, confidence, and energy levels, ensuring the best match between puppy and family.
Step 3: Matching Puppies to Families
We use both your application and the PAT scores to select a puppy suited to your home. We take great care in matching temperament and energy levels to your lifestyle, ensuring a successful and happy placement.
Step 4: Securing Your Puppy
Once your puppy is selected, we require a non-refundable deposit of 50% of the total cost to secure your puppy.
Step 5: Pick-Up & Final Payment
On the agreed-upon pick-up day, we will both sign the puppy contract, and the remaining 50% balance must be paid before the puppy is released to you.
Step 6: CKC Registration Papers
Once we receive the CKC registration papers, they will be mailed to you.
